How Retinoids Can Enhance Your Skin

For the last five decades, skin care experts have recommended a wide variety of topical treatments. Even as trending skin care treatments have come and gone, one group of treatments has stayed at the forefront. Aesthetics experts recommend retinoids for a wide variety of skin woes and as a preventive treatment to help avoid the signs of aging.

In fact, you can get a highly effective retinoid-based peel at Island Lotus Health & Wellness. At our office in Brunswick, Georgia, Serena Skinner, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, and our team offer this treatment so you can have access to the high-grade retinoid you need to get radiant, even skin.

So what are retinoids, exactly? And what can they do for your skin? Let’s take a look.

Understanding retinoids

Retinoids are a group of treatments that includes retinol (the topical treatment many people integrate into their at-home skin care routine), retinoic acid, and retinyl palmitate. All of these retinoids are derived from vitamin A.

While retinoids were originally introduced as a treatment for acne in the early 1970s, skin care experts quickly saw that this topical treatment could do much more. Today, we know you can use retinoids to:

The retinoid works by encouraging cell turnover in your skin, reducing the appearance of imperfections while signaling to your skin that it should produce new blood vessels and collagen. Collagen is the protein that serves as a support structure for your skin. With more of it, you get fewer signs of aging like wrinkles and volume loss.

All told, retinoids can do a lot for your skin. To help you tap into that skin-transforming power, we offer retinoid-based peels at Island Lotus Health & Wellness.

Getting started with retinoids

At our office, we offer two peels using retinoids. The first is a 6% pure retinol peel. This peel deeply exfoliates your skin, revealing the younger-looking, more even skin underneath. With this treatment, you can expect peeling for up to 10 days afterward. By the time you finish peeling, you’ll get radiant skin with fewer imperfections.

If your skin isn’t quite ready for the major peel the 6% retinol treatment delivers, we also offer a 4% pure retinol peel. This treatment works similarly but is safe for all skin types and you’ll only peel for a week. Still, though, you get fewer fine lines and wrinkles and more even skin tone and texture.
